The 3rd Ottawa is the oldest continuously operating Scouts Canada group in the Ottawa region, having operated for almost 100 years, since a few years after Scouting came to Canada.
For many years we were located at 450 Churchill Ave. in the former Westboro United Church, however in February of 2010 Westboro merged with two other United Church parishes, and made the decision to move to their current home, Kitchissippi United on Island Park Drive. This placed their church further from our catchment area and they had many requirements for use of their space, and as a result the 3rd Ottawa made a move to our current home, Westminster Presbyterian on Roosevelt Ave.
We are an active group with Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and in some years Venturers. We have a dedicated volunteer leadership team, who work together to build and run the programs in these sections. The 3rd Ottawa owns much of its own camping equipment including sufficient Eureka tents for 40 youth, modern camp stoves and cooking equipment, and we continue to modernize our equipment through investment from our fundraising activities.
In 2010 and 2011 our Scout Troop participated in an exchange with a Troop from Endingen, Germany which was the trip of a lifetime for many of the youth at the 3rd who participated, and it was through their diligence and hard work that they were able to enjoy a fantastic camp trip in the Black Forest in the summer of 2011.
We are always happy to have additional parent volunteers – Scouts Canada offers very good training and coaching and our leadership team is experienced and can help adults enjoy the Scouting program.
