What We Offer

Discover the Benefits of our Scouting Program

Youth will explore age-appropriate activities through each of our six program areas.

  • Enviroment & Outdoors

Go exploring, hiking, camping, paddling and other ways of enjoying the outdoors in all seasons. Youth also learn new skills around environmental stewardship and Leave No Trace – Scouts take nothing but pictures, and leave nothing but footprints.

  • Citizenship

Through this program area youth learn about becoming good and caring citizens in their community and country, respecting other viewpoints, participating in democracy, understanding the interdependence of people and their countries, and their place in Canada and the world.

  • Leadership

Youth get to learn and practise skills of being good leaders in their Section, community and Canada, through a variety of leadership styles and learning what makes a good leader, as well as a good team player.

  • Creative Expression

During adventures in this program area, youth share and explore their own creative expression as well as understanding creative expression engaged by others; they explore creative pursuits in visual arts, music, spoken arts, digital arts, and more as well as using imagination in problem-solving and working as a team.

  • Active & Healthy Living

Youth get involved in playing, having fun and being active while developing good mental and physical habits for happy, healthy living. They explore health and fitness, making wise and healthy choices, learning first aid skills and emergency preparedness, as well as safety while also having fun, and much more.

  • Beliefs and Values

Youth will explore their personal values and beliefs, as we as the diversity of cultures and faiths that make up our communities and our world. They will explore the beliefs, values and attitudes that are a part of our society – and interact with youth from other cities, provinces and countries as well.

Testimonials

Testimonials from our Families

Our members and our community share how Scouting has made a positive difference in their lives.

  • All from His Experience in Scouting

[Our son] has really come out of his shell since joining the 3rd Ottawa; he’s realized others don’t just exist to serve him, and that he is part of a community that helps everyone within it. Helping around the house, getting ready for school, and looking forward to being outdoors.

  • Thank you!

The scouters are truly engaged and caring mentors to the kids. Thank you!

  • She is Happy and So are We!

When our daughter moved to the 3rd Ottawa from another program, she was looking to learn skills with like-minded friends; in just two years she has gained the skills to do a 4-day remote canoe camp – paddling, portaging, carrying in food and leaving no trace. She is happy and so are we.

  • What a Great and Unique Experience!

[Our Cub] really enjoyed the visit to Tomlinson Recycling; the cubs had a lot of questions that were patiently answered by the Tomlinson representative, and [our Cub] loved getting in the operator’s seat of a large piece of machinery. What a great and unique experience!

  • Skills Development and Camping Trips

We love the skills development and camping trips, along with the activities on the water like canoeing.

  • Teaches my children new skills

Teaches my children new skills - outdoor but also leadership, teamwork and self/motivation - encouraged with badges, which they love.

  • The 3rd Ottawa is a member of the community

The 3rd Ottawa is a member of the community, and we really appreciate the community aspect of Scouting for our children. The emphasis on leadership and self-reliance helps build confidence and that sense of community in our kids.

  • They Get All This At The 3rd Ottawa

I wanted my child to become self-sufficient, independent and caring and a contributing member of society. To gain outdoor skills and have outdoor (e.g. camping) experiences – they get all this at the 3rd Ottawa.

  • Wanted the Same for My Children

We brought our child to the 3rd Ottawa because I was in Cubs and was exposed to things I would otherwise not have learned or experienced as a child -and wanted the same for my children.
