Camp Sites

A curated list of our go-to camp sites, including descriptions and where to find them.

Over the years, the 3rd Ottawa has used many of the local Ontario and Quebec campgrounds available, and we have listed here the ones we use most frequently.  The driving times quoted are all starting from our regular meeting location (Westminster Presbyterian).

  • Opemikon

Scouts Canada owned camp at Christie Lake near Perth.  For over 100 years this has been the primary Scouts Canada camp in our region.  Cabins, tents, lots of hiking and adventure potential, this is a great camp.

  • Otter Lake, QC

Another Scouts Canada owned camp on Hughes Lake (yes, the name is confusing – it is near the town of Otter Lake, but the camp is actually on Hughes Lake). It is located about 45 minutes North of Shawville, QC. A smaller camp, but a favourite with the Cubs due to great games of manhunt.

  • Wesley Clover Parks

While close to the Queensway, the campground has many powered campsites, washroom facilities, a group camping area in the trees, and is connected by pathways to the NCC Capital bikeway. Our Scouts have used the site as a stopover on their bike camping trips. Open May 1 to mid October.

  • Lac Philippe

Inside the Gatineau Park, the group campsites are located closer to Taylor Lake just after the main gate (the booth where a gate rises to let you in) to the park. With two beaches and a system of caves along with enormous hiking potential, this is a popular spot for the 3rd Ottawa.

  • Impeesa (Lac des Loups)

Operated by Scouts de l’Outaouais, this camp is just a bit further past the entrance to Lac Philippe, at the North end of the Gatineau Park, on Lac des Loups (Wolf Lake in English).  It has sanitary facilities, some cabins, and large camping areas.

  • Gracefield

The Gracefield Camp and Conference Centre is run by the Presbyterian Church of Canada, and is located outside Gracefield, QC.  This is a beautiful site with cabins, plentiful tenting, a cool fort in the forest, and great swimming and boating facilities.

  • Foley Mountain

Operated by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, Foley Mountain is just outside the town of Westport and offers great hikes, base and top of trail camps, and nice views

  • Fitzroy Provincial Park

A large, beautiful provincial park on the Ottawa river covered in white pine, 200-year old burl Oak, and trails through shale terraces with a nice waterfall to play around (and in). Several large group sites are perfect for the Scouting movement.  A nice beach is available for swim time as well.

  • Bon Echo Provincial Park

A gorgeous provincial park featuring lakes and the stunning
    Mazinaw Rock.

  • Awacamenj Mino

This camp is run by Scouting Quebec and is just 45 minutes North of Ottawa. It is a beautiful camp with cabins and tenting sites. The name is an Algonquin Indian name that means “better than the best”.

  • Apple Hill

A Scouts Canada camp located South Southeast of Maxville, ON and accessible from Ottawa in just over an hour’s drive. With cabins, several large, open fields, an archery range and a pelletry range, rope bridge and much more.  This camp does not have a lake or river access.

  • Algonquin Park

Algonquin Park is a large (7,725 square kilometers) provincial park that has numerous developed campsites (“campgrounds”), yurts, ranger cabins, RV Camping and Lodges – there are many entrances to the park as well, and the ability to canoe and portage across several lakes, rivers and canyons.  Campers can access these from several geographic locations, and each outing in Algonquin is an adventure!
