Participating in an overnight activity as a Parent

Parents/guardians and other adults who are assisting Scouters at an overnight activity must submit a clean Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening, Child Abuse Registry Check (applicable provinces only) and complete Safe Scouting for Parents online training (takes about 30 minutes) before participating.  You can access Safe Scouting for Parents in MyScouts, where you registered your youth, you will see a link for it in the left-hand menu after you have logged into MyScouts. A group of parents can all take the training together if that is more convenient.

Are there subsidies for the cost of Scouting available?

Yes! Scouts Canada has a No One Left Behind (NOLB) program that exists specifically to help parents with the costs of Scouting when needed.  There is an extensive help article available here that explains the NOLB offering, and answers most questions.  In any given year, Scouts Canada’s NOLB support $500,000+ in subsidies for youth to attend Scouting programs.

Commonly asked questions parents have about Scouting

Parents often have questions about the administrative side of signing up for Scouts Canada, and we find most of those questions are answered here.  When it comes to the annual fee for Scouting, please note the 3rd Ottawa add $25 to the annual fee to help us cover facility rentals, training for Scouters and equipment required for our activities.  All funds go towards making the program better for your youth.  See those questions and answers here.
