Nov.11, 2012 – Remembrance Day

On Sunday, Nov.11, 2012, the 3rd Ottawa will be participating in the 10:30am service at Westminster Presbyterian and then serving coffee and tea after the service.

During the Remembrance Day service, we will have one of the 3rd Ottawa youth lay a wreath with a veteran.

We look forward to seeing as many youth, parents and leaders as possible at the service.  For more information contact the leaders in your Section.

Cubs Otter Lake Camp

The 3rd Ottawa spring Cub Camp at Otter Lake was a blast.  Despite the (at times heavy) rain on Friday and Saturday nights, we enjoyed games, hiking, good food, then swimming (for some!) and a fantastic campfire on the lake.

We had a campfire going most of the weekend near our cooking shelter, and the Cubs themselves rekindled it from ashes on Sunday morning (under the watchful eye of a few leaders – they did a good job!)

Roasting marshmallows is part of the Cub experience

The food this camp was plentiful and traditional – eggs, bacon, spaghetti, beans and hotdogs.  Added to that was a Canadian treat, bannock (in essence, the dough for scones cooked over a fire).  Cubs wrapped their hot dogs in bannock, roasted it on a fire and – voila, instant delicious treat.

A great camp, with great leaders, and fantastic cubs!

Cubs: Spring camp at Otter Lake

Hello Cub Parents,

Our spring camp this year will be just with the 3rd Ottawa pack, at Camp Otter Lake, which is owned by Scouts Canada, and actually located on Hughes Lake outside the town of Otter Lake, Quebec (I know – that is confusing).

The camp takes place June 1-3, 2012 and this campsite is well liked by the cubs, because of its unusual and fun shape – a bowl-like valley through which the Cubs love to play manhunt and capture the flag – as well as one of the best campfire locations in the Ottawa area, on a large table rock right beside the lake.  We are planning on lots of fun and night time activities, as well as some good hiking in the area – the lake has several beavers and we will certainly find downed trees and evidence of other animals.

Make sure you have this weekend booked off for the Cub year-end camp – it is always a fun one! There are directions and links to the camp on our Campsites page under the Resources link.

Cub Car Rally 2012

The Heritage Area Cub Car Rally took place this year on March 31, 2012 at the old Ottawa Tech High School.  Roughly 180 cubs showed up with some amazing cub cars this year.  From fast, sleek cars with the look of muscle cars, to animal cars (including zebras, an elephant, a snake and more), to all sorts of car and truck designs.

The 3rd did not win any trophies this year at the Heritage event, but we did have some excellent and fast cars – which was proven in our pack rally on April 3 when the three talented cubs pictured below won first, second and third in speed.  The sumptuous, one-of-a-kind, handmade trophies they are holding we manufactured lovingly by our own Rikki (Steven Molnar).

Great job on the cars this year!
